This past April, an article I submitted to Link: The Journal of Higher Education Web Professionals was published. This was monumental for a number of reasons. It was the first thing I’d had published on the topic of social media–maybe the first real thing I’d had published ever. Also, the article included a custom illustration by none other than the Jeff Stevens. You may know him as @kuratowa on Twitter, as the guy with the funnest office ever, or even as that guy with an obscure pop culture video clip for every one of life’s occasions.
My article, “#EpicFail: A Tale of Snow and Social Media,” was about overcoming a winter storm communication failure. What could be more appropriate to illustrate it than Twitter’s Fail Whale? Only a wintery Fail Whale, of course!
A Fail Whale with a tiny winter hat! This might just be the best thing ever. And what makes it even better (I don’t think Jeff even knew this at the time) is that I actually knit tiny hats in my spare time. In essence, this little graphic combines two of my favorite things: social media and knitting.
I’ve said it before, but I’m going to say it again: higher ed web people are the best. Thank you, Jeff!
